Video of a Zoom Reading by Sarah Ruhlen, Christopher Citro, and Steve Castro – March 5, 2023

Here’s a video of me, Christopher Citro, and Sarah Ruhlen and Steve Castro doing a living room Zoom reading from Sunday March 5, 2023. Sarah Ruhlen reads her short story “Shepherds Take Warning” first published in Waccamaw. I read poems from my second book, If We Had a Lemon We’d Throw It and Call That the Sun (Elixir Press, 2021), along with newer poems. And Steve Castro reads poems from his book Blue Whale Phenomena (Otis Books, 2019) along with newer poems. Hope you enjoy it!

Video of Steve Castro and me reading our poems in Spanish & English for Syracuse Stage’s Poetry + Play

Howdy! Here’s a video of me and Steve Castro reading our poems for last Sunday’s Poetry + Play event at Syracuse Stage. Steve reads his poems in Spanish and I read his English translations of them. Then I read my poems in English and Steve reads his original translations of them into Spanish. This event was part of an afternoon of poetry in English and Spanish before the final performance of Espejos: Clean, a play by Christine Quintana performed at Syracuse Stage in Syracuse, New York on March 5, 2023.

Listen to me reading new poems on The Campbell Conversations!

This July 4th weekend I appeared on WRVO’s Campbell Conversations reading poems from the manuscript-in-progress of my 3rd book. The stream is now available, and you also get to hear the wonderful Dana Spiotta and Phil Memmer. Have a listen! Huge thank you to host Grant Reeher for having me back on the program.

Me reading “Like a River Stood on End” on my YouTube page

I just uploaded to my YouTube page a short video I made in June 2021 of me reading my poem “Like a River Stood on End,” which was first published in Cherry Tree issue 7. I hope you enjoy it.

You can read the text of the poem HERE.

And yes, an owl really did attack my head while walking in the woods. Twice. I chose to take it as a compliment.

“We Might As Well Be Hovering” Video

I made this short video of me reading my poem “We Might As Well Be Hovering,” with accordion accompaniment by my partner Sarah. I’ve also posted it on my YouTube page. Thanks for watching! You can find the poem in my new book, If We Had a Lemon We’d Throw It and Call That the Sun (Elixir Press, 2021).

Reading the opening of a lyric essay on WRVO’s The Campbell Conversations!

It was awesome to be asked to read my creative nonfiction for yesterday’s episode of The Campbell Conversations on WRVO, celebrating the work of writers associated with The Downtown Writers Center in Syracuse. Sitting at home in a bedroom closet last week — with my phone balanced on my knee — I read the first 6 minutes of my lyric essay, “Go Away and Stay Right Here,” originally published in the Colorado Review. My reading leads off the episode which also features luminous performances by Jessica Cuello, Georgia Popoff, and Arthur Flowers.
