Howdy! Here’s a video of me and Steve Castro reading our poems for last Sunday’s Poetry + Play event at Syracuse Stage. Steve reads his poems in Spanish and I read his English translations of them. Then I read my poems in English and Steve reads his original translations of them into Spanish. This event was part of an afternoon of poetry in English and Spanish before the final performance of Espejos: Clean, a play by Christine Quintana performed at Syracuse Stage in Syracuse, New York on March 5, 2023.

I love you. I want us both to eat well. On Valentine’s Day.
Wow! I’m so touched that this Valentine’s Day my line, “I love you. I want us both to eat well,” from my poem “Our Beautiful Life When It’s Filled with Shrieks” was quoted in two Valentine’s Day food writing articles.

“The Island Designated Yes” published at The Shore!
“The Island Designated Yes,” a prose poem I co-wrote with Dustin Nightingale, has just been published online at The Shore.
It’s very short. It’s a love poem. And it mentions indigo cherry drops which are tomatoes we grow every year and taste like when funk songs mention sunshine. I hope you enjoy it.
Huge thank yous to editors Caroline Chavatel, Emma DePanise, John A. Nieves!

Thrilled!!! to review proofs of my poem “We Couldn’t Be More Biological” which will appear in the January issue of The American Poetry Review!!! Wow!
I never know what I’m going to write about when I write my poems. I sure didn’t know this love poem would be inspired by a couple creatures peeping out from the middle of a 4 hour NOAA deep sea science expedition video, which is the kind of thing my partner and I like to watch late at night with the lights down low…
My poem Circuitry Suite in the Whitman on Walls Anthology!
Delighted to receive my contributor copy of the Whitman on Walls anthology, which includes my newly commissioned poem “Circuitry Suite,” responding to passages from Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself. It was a delight and an honor to perform this last August at the Everson Museum of Art alongside an awesome group of other poets and performers. Huge thanks to Karin Coonrod and everyone with Compagnia de’ Colombari for making this all happen.
You can view their short film “Infinite Variety,” which my poem was also responding to on their Vimeo page here: https://vimeo.com/507829941
