In the Landscape of Contemporary Poetry. Wednesdays, 6:00-8:00 p.m. ET. 6 weeks, starting December 4. We’ll read recently published poetry from literary journals and books, generate new poems with the help of prompts that I create, and spend the bulk of each class in a fun, inspiring poetry workshop. In this course participants will write and receive workshop comments on five original poems. Writers at all levels are welcome. I teach In the Landscape of Contemporary Poetry often, and every time the readings are all new, so you can take it again and again!
Participants will receive:
- 6 two-hour live Zoom classes (skipping Dec 25, so our final class will be January 15)
- weekly pdf packets of sample poems from recent literary journals and books, focusing on craft elements and themes
- original writing prompts written by me inspired by each week’s sample poems
- workshop comments from the class and me on your five original poems
This is a live online writing workshop. Registered participants will receive a Zoom link prior to the beginning of classes. Registration will close when full (12 students). The class requires a minimum of 6 registered participants. Register early, as spots fill quickly.

Creative Nonfiction Workshop. Thursdays, 6:00-8:00 p.m. ET. 6 weeks, starting December 5. In this class I’ll provide craft talks, original writing prompts, and we’ll take recent literary essays apart to see how the writers achieved their astonishing effects. Then we’ll workshop creative nonfiction essays (micros, flash or full-length up to 4,000 words – all are welcome!). I teach this class often, and the readings are always different. If you’ve taken it before you can always take it again and the class content will be new. Writers at all levels are welcome!
Participants will receive:
- 6 two-hour live Zoom classes (skipping December 26, so our final class will be January 16)
- weekly pdf packets of sample essays
- original writing prompts written by me inspired by each week’s sample essays
- workshop comments from the class and me on your original essays

Christopher Citro is the author of If We Had a Lemon We’d Throw It and Call That the Sun (Elixir Press, 2021), winner of the 2019 Antivenom Poetry Award, and The Maintenance of the Shimmy-Shammy (Steel Toe Books, 2015). His honors include a 2018 Pushcart Prize for poetry, a 2019 fellowship from the Ragdale Foundation, Columbia Journal’s poetry award, and a creative nonfiction award from The Florida Review. His poetry appears in 32 Poems, Alaska Quarterly Review, American Poetry Review, Bennington Review, Best New Poets, Conduit, Crazyhorse, Denver Quarterly, Gulf Coast, Iowa Review, Kenyon Review, Narrative, Pleiades, Ploughshares, Poetry Daily, West Branch, and elsewhere. Christopher has taught at the University of Kansas, Indiana University, SUNY Oswego, the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing, Kettle Pond Writer’s Conference, The Downtown Writers Center in Syracuse and elsewhere. He is an Editorial Assistant for the Seneca Review and lives in Syracuse, New York.
